Overview:
The goal of this presentation is for attendees to learn and perfect diagnostics and case management involving abnormalities in micturition in an interactive format with two presenters. After a short introduction, we will start with a review of micturition, normal pathophysiology and different places disease can interrupt and cause dysfunction. Following that, we will do a quick review of the differences between overflow and neurogenic incontinence. This will lead into six common cases of abnormal micturition – three surrounding general practice and three from a neurologist’s perspective. These will be presented with attendee involvement, polling and trivia questions.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the normal physiology of micturition and identify the key processes involved in urinary storage and voiding.
- Differentiate between overflow and neurogenic incontinence based on clinical presentation and pathophysiology.
- Recognize common locations of dysfunction in the micturition process and their corresponding diagnostic challenges.
- Apply clinical reasoning to manage six case studies of abnormal micturition, incorporating general practice and neurology perspectives.
- Engage in interactive diagnostics using polling and trivia to enhance retention of concepts and case management strategies.
