Dr. David Rousseau joined Butterfly Network in 2022, excited at the opportunity to bring the latest in ultrasound technology to the veterinary profession and to work with all species of animals. Expanding on the Butterfly mission statement—democratize healthcare by making medical imaging accessible to everyone around the world— Dr. Rousseau believes with proper training and ultrasound equipment that is versatile and accessible, the use of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) will change the way veterinarians practice and deliver care. He works with key opinion leaders in the field of veterinary POCUS, and with faculty and leadership at veterinary schools here in the US and abroad, updating curricula as they expand ultrasound training and exposure for veterinary students.

Originally from the Boston area, Dr. Rousseau graduated from Ross University following his clinical training at Washington State University. He then returned home to the east coast where he trained for a year further in a rigorous small animal rotating medicine and surgery internship program before settling in at a small animal hospital north of Boston. He practiced there for the majority of his career as Medical Director, and has memories of laboring with a complicated old school ultrasound machine. Dr. Rousseau brought his many years of veterinary training and clinical experience to the veterinary industry when he joined Zoetis in 2015, where he stayed until coming to Butterfly in 2022. A lover of all creatures great and small, his current animal family includes a horse named Frazer and a Pug puppy named Juniper.
