Overview:

Managing atopic dermatitis can be difficult and require multimodal therapy. Part of that approach includes desensitization with immunotherapy for long-term management of this chronic disease. However, with so many layers to treating allergic disease, how can we effectively educate clients on the use of immunotherapy and maximize our clinical success? In this lecture, participants will be introduced to the advantages of molecular allergology and to the Pet Allergy Xplorer (PAX), the new IgE serological macroarray that uses molecular components. Also, how to implement successful allergen specific immunotherapy protocols for patients.

Ashley Bourgeois, DVM, Dip ACVD

Ashley Bourgeois completed her bachelor’s degree at Iowa State University and graduated from the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She then completed a small animal internship at Purdue University. Upon finishing her internship, she accepted a residency position with the Animal Dermatology Clinic’s Tustin, California, location in 2011. She became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2014. Bourgeois moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2016 to help expand the company. She is a shareholder within the company which includes multiple locations throughout the country. She has a strong interest in autoimmune skin diseases, cytology, allergies, and otology. In her leisure, Bourgeois enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, and watching sports. She and her husband stay busy with their daughter, son, and rescue Pitbull/Boxer mix. Bourgeois is passionate about educating veterinarians in dermatology and work-life integration through her podcast and social media presence as The Derm Vet.
