Spotlight on Feline Parasites
0.5 CE Credit Hour / Veterinarians & Veterinary Technicians
Overview:
Cats are uniquely susceptible to a wide array of external and internal parasites but often remain unprotected despite the availability of safe, effective, comprehensive control products. During this discussion, we will review the common ticks, fleas, and vector-borne infections that threaten feline health. Additionally, there will be a review of the cestodes and nematodes that infect cats with a goal of supporting veterinarians in their efforts to protect feline health. Zoonotic concerns and the impact of parasitic infection on the human-animal bond will also be discussed. Every cat deserves protection from these parasitic threats; join us to learn current recommendations for reaching that goal.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe options to protect cats and reduce the risks associated with feline parasites, including limiting infection from zoonotic agents.
- Understand the external and internal parasites that impact feline health and prevalence of these parasites in different regions of the United States.
- Build awareness of the factors responsible for parasite risks that indoor and outdoor cats face.
- Review the significance of feline vector-borne infections and internal parasites, including why infections are often missed despite our best efforts.
