Every day the general practitioner is seeing dogs that are overweight or even obese with concurrent osteoarthritis. Veterinarians and even pet parents seem to recognize overweight/obese pets, but they do not consider it a true disease state even thought it has been shown to reduce quality of life and decrease lifespan with dogs dying an average of 1-2 years earlier.
It has been reported that one in four dogs are affected with osteoarthritis; therefore, the overweight/obese osteoarthritic canine is not only common but suffers with two disease states. Learn how to communicate this “joint effect” and use nutrition to successfully treat, but better yet prevent overweight/obese and osteoarthritis in your canine patients.
- Understand overweight/obese as a primary disease state.
- Understand the role of specific nutrients in developmental orthopedic disease and osteoarthritis.
- Learn how to successfully use diet to treat and prevent overweight/obese and osteoarthritis in dogs.
This program has been approved for 1 hour of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.
