Overview:

Canine obesity is a common and clinically significant nutritional disorder with far-reaching implications on health and longevity. Attendees will review risk factors for the development of obesity as well as evidence-based dietary strategies for safe, effective weight loss and long-term weight maintenance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review risk factors and health consequences of canine obesity.
  • Examine the role of dietary intake, macronutrient composition, and feeding practices in the development of canine obesity.
  • Learn evidence-based nutritional strategies for weight loss, including diet selection, portion control, and monitoring to support safe and effective outcomes.

Lisa Weeth, DVM, DACVIM (Nutrition)

Dr. Lisa Weeth graduated from University of California, Davis, in 2002, and completed her Clinical Nutrition residency in 2007. She became a Board  Certified Veterinary Nutritionist that same year and has been in Nutrition Specialty practice ever since proving both in person and telehealth nutritional support to veterinarians and caregivers. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Weeth is a frequent lecturer at regional, national, and international veterinary conferences; serves on the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Global Nutrition Committee; and is on the Executive Board for the American Association of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN).
