Keep it Simple: Clinical Insights You Need to Succeed With Your Canine Allergic Dermatitis Patients

0.5 CE Credit Hour / Veterinarians & Veterinary Technicians

Overview:

In the past ten years, research and innovation has led to some life changing therapies to help our canine patients struggling with allergic and atopic dermatitis. This presentation will help guide you through a simplified and streamlined diagnostic and treatment approach for dogs with both acute or chronic allergic pruritus, and provide real-world strategies for managing these patients. We will discuss the treatment of allergic itch with an emphasis on what works and how we can simplify the diagnostic and treatment plan for your patient, and the benefits of a treatment that may increase compliance, strengthen the bond and decrease caregiver burden.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize that itch is an urgent medical condition requiring fast, effective and safe veterinary vs. “home remedy” or OTC therapy
  • Understand the different diagnostic approaches for acute and chronic pruritus
  • Effectively select which therapy would fit best for their patient based on patient and owner needs
  • Understand how to manage previously well-controlled canine patients with allergic skin disease having a flare of allergic itch and inflammation
  • Learn the key benefits of a treatment for allergic itch based on owner preferences to increase dosing compliance and to support the human-animal bond
