Hematology Essentials: Maximizing the Value of the CBC

Holly is a veterinarian, board-certified clinical pathologist, and figurative hand-holder. She practiced small animal medicine before, during, and after her specialty training — grateful to have combined her love of clinical practice and the laboratory diagnostics that support it. Holly remains in the trenches at a general, referral, and emergency practice. She loves making an impact at the interface of laboratory data and patient care. Holly recently transitioned into her new role as Chief Veterinary Educator for Antech Diagnostics — exercising her passion for delivering education about maximizing diagnostic testing. When away from the office, she enjoys traveling with her family, snuggling her sugar-sweet bird dog and tripod cat, and dreaming of home renovations that rarely come to fruition.

I have been a technician for over 15 years (gah I am so old). I have a Masters in animal science and received my AS in veterinary technology from St. Petersburg college. I have worked in the university setting and more recently at a large hybrid practice. My primary focuses have been in internal medicine, nutrition, and clinical pathology, but truthfully, I enjoy almost everything about vet med (excluding orthopedics broken bones creep me out) I have a VTS in small animal internal medicine (face book recently reminded me it has been 8 years since I sat for my boards and then cried hysterically after the test). I grew up in a family of educators and like many other children of teachers I love to teach. This passion for educating has lead me into my new role with Antech where I am helping with the development of education centered around laboratory diagnostics and point of care instrumentation. I love teaching other technician/nurses about laboratory medicine/clinical pathology and how they can have a true impact on patient outcomes and care through the lab. It is a place where technicians can really shine. I also love pugs and chickens, cannot pass a thrift shop without going in, and excel at granny crafts like knitting and quilting.
