Overview:

A complete gastrointestinal blood panel is often not evaluated or delayed in dogs and cats with acute and chronic gastrointestinal clinical signs. This may be in part due to submission requirement to an outside reference laboratory. Newer technologies now enable many gastrointestinal panel blood tests to be complete as "bedside" point-of-care diagnostics in the clinic or hospital with rapid result times.

Learning Objectives:

  • The attendee will learn which tests should be evaluated when performing a complete gastrointestinal blood panel to evaluate a patient with acute or chronic gastrointestinal clinical signs.
  • The attendee will learn how bedside point-of-care Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) blood testing can rapidly determine cobalamin, folate, cortisol and cPL values in their clinically ill gastrointestinal patients.
  • The attendee will learn how to utilize the results of cobalamin, folate, cortisol, TLI and cPL assay results in their treatment of appropriate gastrointestinal disorders.
