Evaluation and Treatment of Suspected Hyperadrenocorticism Syndrome in Dogs

0.5 CE Credit Hour / Veterinarians & Veterinary Technicians

Overview:

Hyperadrenocorticism (HAC) or Cushing's syndrome is a common endocrine disease in dogs. This syndrome includes ACTH dependent (pituitary dependent hyperadrenocorticism), ACTH independent (adrenal dependent), iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome, and atypical sex hormone. This course includes a review of signs of hyperadrenocorticism, as well as changes seen in a minimum data base that may lead the practitioner to suspect hyperadrenocorticism. Both screening and differentiation tests will be reviewed. Lastly, therapeutic options will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize common clinical signs of hyperadrenocorticism.
  • Differentiate between which patients should be tested for hyperadrenocorticism versus those that should not.
  • Determine a diagnostic plan to diagnose HAC.
  • Understand how to differentiate between pituitary dependent hyperadrenocorticism, adrenal dependent hyperadrenocorticism and Iatrogenic Cushing's Syndrome.
  • Learn how to teat hyperadrenocorticism
