Overview:
Human and AI can actively enhance each other’s complementary strengths. If the AI result aligns with what the doctor is seeing in terms of clinical signs and the doctor’s training and experience, AI can provide a true independent assessment (second set of eyes). If the doctor has further questions on a particular AI finding, that is where radiologists come into play. The DVM is then able to focus their questions to the Vetology specialists on that area of concern which is much more efficient and less expensive versus traditional teleradiology requests. This flexibility improves the standard of care at Vetco Total Care, reduces overall costs, and improves adoption by making both sets of services efficient.
During this program, Dr. Whitney Miller, DVM, MBA, DACVPM, Chief Veterinarian at Petco and Dr. Seth Wallack, DACVR, CEO and Founder, Vetology AI, will explore casework which AI radiograph interpretation had an immediate impact on the diagnostic outcome and treatment plan for canine and feline patients. They will also discuss machine learning and radiograph AI interpretation and its direct application to improving veterinary care in a general practice setting.
Additionally, the course will describe methods for successfully implementing remote artificial intelligence to validate a radiograph, inform and validate a diagnosis, inform prognosis and treatment decisions.

Dr. Whitney Miller, DVM, MBA, DACVPM, Chief Veterinarian at Petco
Fueled by her passion for making a positive impact in pets’ lives, Dr. Whitney Miller (she/her/hers) serves as Petco’s Chief Veterinarian. In that role, she is the lead veterinary subject matter expert advising Petco as a health & wellness company and overseeing the company’s standards of excellence in animal care and welfare; provides strategic direction and medical management for Petco’s growth in veterinary services; and provides cross-functional support across the company to marketing, communications, legal, merchandising, pet services and more. Dr. Miller leads the Petco medical team, which supports over 200 full-service hospitals and mobile vaccination clinics operating in over 1,000 Petco Pet Care Centers nationwide. In addition, Dr. Miller is a member of the Petco Pet Wellness Council (PPWC), an independent coalition of leading experts in veterinary science and animal care that serve as an external source of unbiased advice and counsel to Petco on a range of topics across the pet care industry. The PPWC also guides the development and aggregation of credible pet care science to educate professionals and all who care about pets.
Over the course of her veterinary career, Dr. Miller has spent time in emergency and general companion animal veterinary practice, worked in pharmacovigilance reporting for Zoetis and spent time in federal government relations for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), advocating on animal welfare issues. Dr. Miller received her DVM and MBA degrees from Colorado State University and has been board certified in preventive medicine since 2018. Dr. Miller continues to practice companion animal medicine every chance she gets.
Dr. Seth Wallack, DACVR, CEO and Founder, Vetology AI
Dr. Wallack was originally from New England but moved out to California for his veterinary school and radiology residency training at UC Davis. He relocated to San Diego in 2002 and started a mobile ultrasound practice.
Over the next 3 years he grew that mobile practice into a free-standing outpatient imaging center, Veterinary Imaging Center of San Diego, Inc., with a singular goal of keeping the radiologist relevant to his mobile clients via web based technology.
In 2004, Dr. Wallack built his predecessor teleconsulting platform. After creating his first teleconsulting platform, Dr. Wallack turned his attention to the need for training veterinary sonographers and live streaming ultrasounds for mobile clients.
He founded the American Association of Veterinary Radiologists in 2007 and was granted a patent for real-time ultrasound streaming in veterinary medicine in 2012. In 2010, Dr. Wallack began on his vision of organizing and deduping disparate veterinary teleconsulting data into one useable platform, Vetology.
In 2016, Dr. Wallack realized that a radiologist shortage would soon limit the veterinary teleradiology market and began working on artificial intelligence within Vetology, creating Vetology AI. In late 2017, Vetology.ai was launched for worldwide use with an AI based radiograph image match.
Since then, Dr. Wallack and the Vetology.ai team have been at the forefront of veterinary radiology AI work and are the first in the world to release a canine thoracic radiology AI product that autonomously reads a thorax and delivers a high-quality evaluation back to the DVM within minutes.
Soon, Vetology.ai will include disease probability based on a patient’s age, breed, sex, location and diagnostics performed.
