Chronic Proliferative Otitis Prevention, Not Surgery!

Overview:
Chronic otitis externa is a common problem that has been defined different ways, though the result may be End Stage Otitis Externa, a surgical problem. New terminology and definitions have been described and will be discussed in this session, including New Acute Otitis Externa and Chronic Ear Problem versus proliferative otitis externa. Prevention with both preventative and predictive maintenance to prevent otitis progression is the key to avoiding the need for surgery. This session will discuss and educate on how to develop successful maintenance in otitis externa patients.
Program Agenda:
- Discuss definitions regarding the stages of otitis externa and Preventative and Predictive Maintenance therapy.
- Decipher when maintenance therapy should be instituted and what options exist to accomplish this.
- Evaluate the critical keys to being successful in learning how to predict that you and the client are not on course to prevent proliferative otitis
Craig Griffin DVM, DACVD
Dr Griffin was founder of the Animal Dermatology Clinics that became the Animal Dermatology Group. This group has grown to the largest group of practicing veterinary dermatologists in the world that has trained many Diplomates of the ACVD. Dr Griffin received the ACVD Award of Excellence in 2001 and the Frank Král Award for Achievements in Veterinary Dermatology in 2014. He is coauthor of Muller and Kirk’s Small Animal Dermatology 5,6 and 7th editions and co editor of Current Veterinary Dermatology, the science and art of therapy. Dr Griffin has given over 400 presentations to veterinarians around the world. He is coauthor on over 100 published chapters or papers, 50 in peer reviewed journals. Dr Griffin has been an instructor or course master in Dermatology for the European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies since it’s inception in 1991 in Europe and then also in China and Asia.
