An Introduction to Regenerative Medicine: PRP and PRF

Overview:

    This program will serve as an introduction regenerative medicine, specifically the platelet concentrates known as platelet rich plasma (PRP) and platelet rich fibrin (PRF). These medical devices have been used in human medicine for over 20 years and are gaining traction through most fields of veterinary medicine.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Understand how PRP and PRF work (at molecular/organ/animal levels)
    • Learn how to incorporate these technologies into their practice (from case selection to the correct processing of samples)

    Dr. Orava is the Chief Scientific Officer at Enso Discoveries. In this role he designs, develops, and validates medical products/devices for both the human and veterinary fields.

    Dr. Orava has been involved, full time, in the world of regenerative medicine for more than 15 years. A recognized expert in his field, Dr. Orava received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, with Honors, from the Ontario Veterinary College. He then furthered his education with an intensive year-long internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island. He was first introduced to the world of regenerative medicine when he worked in a progressive sports horse practice in the Silicon Valley area of California for over 6 years. In 2006, he left practice to work full-time with a California-based company that focused on regenerative medicine (stem cells and PRP). In 2015, Dr. Orava joined a start-up company based in Manhattan, Kansas which focused on developing innovative medical products for both the human and veterinary fields. That company has evolved into Enso Discoveries. Under Dr. Orava’s leadership, Enso Discoveries has brought two patented medical devices to market: platelet rich plasma (PRP) and platelet rich fibrin (PRF). Dr. Orava has been an invited speaker on regenerative medicine both nationally and internationally.

    Renea Lewis is the director of veterinary education for dvm360®—an MJH Life Sciences Company™. She develops the continuing education strategy launching hundreds of CE programs per year, including oversees dvm360 Flex—an online continuing education experience for veterinary professionals. Lewis has over 20+ years of content strategy and development, multimedia publishing, marketing, communications, and copywriting experience, including 15 years in animal health care science. She earned her Bachelor of Science in communications at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, and is an avid learner with professional certifications in communications, education, digital marketing, leadership, social media, and technology software platforms.

    As a multi-functional visionary strategist and leader with deep experience in marketing and business operations, she formerly built a Fortune 500 animal health distributor's marketing team leading successful communication and educational programs, marketing playbooks, media relations and event management deliverables. One of her career highlights include coordinating an Opening Bell Ceremony at NASDAQ in Times Square. For 10 years, she was the Managing Editor of 22 annual publications/catalogs partnering with industry thought leaders to develop editorial content and managed the product packaging rebranding of 13K private label animal health care products, including pharmaceuticals, which she was the recipient of a Brand Innovation Award. She co-built a B2B e-commerce business including directing the implementation of a Product Information Management System (PIMS) for 20,000 animal health care products. Lewis has achieved successful business growth through her partnerships with hundreds of global animal health suppliers (Bayer, Ceva, Elanco, IDEXX, Mars, Merial, Midmark, Purina, Vetoquinol, Virbac, and Zoetis, to name a few) via multimedia advertising and digital campaign sales over $1.0M, product education and demos, and event programming. She has been instrumental in developing well-known animal health care programs with AAEP, AAFP, AZA, CAETA, Catalyst Council, Canines for Companion Animals, The North Shore Animal League, Paws of Honor, Wounded Warriors, and VMAs. Lewis has also expanded her insights into veterinary practice/hospital operations as a former Regional Marketing Director for a group of national veterinary specialty and emergency hospitals partnering directly with hospital and medical leadership.

    Lewis has received several awards, notably the President's Award (former Fortune 500 company), and Manager of the Year, (peer nomination) in addition to serving within her profession including the American Marketing Association, the Public Relations Society, and The Society of Marketing Professional Services. Lewis is most passionate about partnering within the industry to advance animal health care.
