Overview:
This course reviews alternative feeding formats (minimally processed diets): what these diets comprise, why clients are seeking them, and what challenges are present and how to overcome them.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand what constitutes a minimally processed or “alternative” diet
- Review challenges associated with these diets: stability, expectations, and perceptions
- Discover ways that manufacturers are overcoming these challenges to deliver products that veterinary professionals can feel comfortable with
James Templeman, PhD
James Templeman, Ph.D., serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Guelph and a nutritionist with Primal Pet Foods. He has conducted extensive research in animal nutrition and metabolism and recently assessed the practical application of protein quality models in the pet food industry. Templeman has spoken at a variety of academic and industry conferences including annual meetings of the American Society of Animal Science, Pet Food Association of Canada and International Symposium of Energy and Protein.
