Overview:

Effective and safe feline surgical pain management requires understanding the unique needs of cats and how to incorporate available treatment options into an overall analgesia and anesthetic protocol. This presentation will highlight an FDA-approved, novel, long-acting, transdermal buprenorphine for cats, including mechanism of action, patient selection, and protocol incorporation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the unique challenges associated with feline perioperative pain management.
  • Describe the mechanism of action, efficacy and safety of Zorbium (buprenorphine transdermal solution) for cats.
  • Be familiar with appropriate patient selection and protocol incorporation tips for long-acting buprenorphine.

Jeff Wilson, DVM, Dipl ACVAA, CVA

Dr. Wilson is a board certified veterinary anesthesiologist currently living in Waxhaw, NC. He attended North Carolina State University for veterinary school and completed a rotating internship and residency at the University of Tennessee. He has lived on the East Coast his whole life and has served on the veterinary school faculty at University of Pennsylvania, Angell Animal Medical Center, and Virginia Tech. Currently he serves as Director of Clinical Development at Nutramax Laboratories and consults in anesthesia, pain management, and critical care. Dr. Wilson is an outdoor fan and loves hiking, birdwatching, and kayaking. He lives with his wife, Avril, and dog, Lacy.
