Adding Digital Cytology to Your Practice: So Much Better for You and Your Patients

Overview:
This talk will focus on how today you can use technology to get real time help with your cases. Real-time and accurate information allows for better diagnoses, treatment, outcome and prognosis. We will discuss practical recommended diagnostic modalities to be utilized during routine wellness and sick animal examinations including the use of standard diagnostic equipment augmented by digital cytology and the ability to interact with additional specialists when needed . We will take a closer look at some common clinical scenarios, highlighting tips for interpretation of blood work, urine and the utility of a point-of-care digital system that gives you real-time access to a board-certified veterinary clinical pathologist and other specialists. You don't have to go it alone!

Sarah Barrett, DVM, PhD DACVPc
Sarah is a native of Southwest Virginia, and completed her BS in Biology, and DVM at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech (’99 and ’05, respectively). She practiced emergency medicine and critical care, followed by small animal day practice in Houston and Central Texas, before returning to Virginia Tech for a clinical pathology residency. She was board-certified in 2014 and completed a PhD in autoimmune glomerulonephritis in 2015. She spent the next 5 years as a clinical assistant professor with a joint appointment at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, before joining Zoetis in 2021. When not in the office, she spends time with her family, wrangling many animals, and working on her lavender farm.
Cory Penn, DVM
Dr. Cory Penn received his DVM from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in following receiving his Bachelor of Science from Eastern Illinois University. Before joining Abaxis and Zoetis, Dr. Penn worked was a small animal veterinarian and medical director in central Illinois. Dr. Penn is currently a veterinary medical lead for diagnostic instruments with Zoetis.
Dr. Penn currently resides in west central Illinois with his wife Emily, three daughters, Harper, Reese, and Charlotte; and Labrador retriever, Chloe. In his free time, Dr. Penn enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors.
