Overview:
The American Heartworm Society recently updated their guidelines. In this webinar, we will discuss what has changed and what has remained the same.
Learning Objectives:- Participants will be able to develop an effective heartworm treatment plan.
- Participants will be able to recognize when and how to test a dog for heartworm.
- Participants will be able to define what is new in the heartworm guidelines to their colleagues.
Andy Moorhead, DVM, PhD, MS, DACVM (Parasitology)
Dr. Andy Moorhead is a small animal parasitologist and Associate Professor at the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Moorhead received the DVM degree from North Carolina State University, followed by a MS in Veterinary Parasitology from Purdue University. He then received his Ph.D. degree from Cornell University. Dr. Moorhead's main research interests are the role of host-specific cues in development of filarial worms, and heartworm treatment. Dr. Moorhead became a Diplomate of ACVM (Parasitology) in 2015. He is also an at-large member of the executive board of the American Heartworm Society since 2016. He is currently the Symposium Chair for the 2025 symposium. He is also President-elect of the Veterinary American Association of Parasitologists.
